A delicious menu was presented to the lucky guests at the ESL Winter Cultural Potluck

A delicious assortment of foods served as the successful form for multilingual families to become familiar with the Eisenhower Intermediate School.

The featured dish on the menu was to bring families together on Wednesday, December 20, when Eisenhower’s ESL (English as a Second Language) department was the host to its first Winter Cultural Potluck meal.

‘’’The idea was to invite our Multilingual families so that they can get acquainted with the community at Eisenhower Intermediate School,’’ Davina George, an ESL Teacher at Eisenhower, said.

She asked for students and families to bring a dish, drinks or utensils to the school for that afternoon feast that was well attended and enjoyed by LeighAnn Matthews, who is the Bridgewater-Raritan Regional School District’s Supervisor of ESL and World Languages, and Dr. Laura Bassett, the Eisenhower Principal.

‘’Having an event like this is a great opportunity to establish true school-family partnerships and ensure all families feel connected to the school community. Thank you to Ms. George for planning the multicultural potluck for the Eisenhower multilingual learners and their families,’’ Ms. Matthews shared.

She  was pleased with the turnout.

‘’ It was so nice to see the students, their families, and their teachers engaging in conversation and sharing a meal. It was especially exciting to learn about (and taste!) the different dishes that were brought in from different cultures, too,’’ Ms. Matthews said.

Dr. Bassett agreed.

‘’It was a wonderful success and we were so happy to enjoy the time with our multilingual learners, their families, and their teachers - not to mention the food was incredible,’’ Dr. Bassett said. ‘’Huge thanks to Davina for organizing a wonderful event for our school community. Thank you, Davina!!!’’
