Eisenhower Intermediate School is proud to announce the donation of a new Buddy Bench, a gift from the dedicated members of Girl Scout Troop 60160.
As part of earning their Bronze Award - the highest honor a Girl Scout Junior can achieve - the troop identified a meaningful way to promote friendship, inclusion, and kindness on our playground. After presenting their thoughtful proposal to Principal Dr. Laura Bassett earlier this year, the scouts planned, painted, and completed the bench, culminating in a special dedication ceremony held on Friday, June 6.
The Buddy Bench will be introduced to Eisenhower students next school year as a safe, welcoming place for anyone seeking a friend to talk to or play with during recess. By simply sitting on the bench, students can signal a desire for connection, encouraging others to invite them into games or conversations. This simple yet powerful tool fosters empathy, reduces loneliness, and supports our school value of acceptance, which is what the “A” in SOAR stands for at Eisenhower School!
Troop 60160’s project beautifully reflects the spirit of leadership and service. Each scout contributed over 20 hours of time, building their problem-solving skills and engaging in teamwork and collaboration. Their efforts will leave a lasting legacy at Eisenhower, reminding us all that small acts of kindness - like reaching out to a classmate on the bench - can make a big difference. We are grateful for their commitment to making our school a place where every student feels seen, supported, and included.
We know that this is what helps make it possible for every Eisenhower Eagle to SOAR!
