They hit the hardwood and delivered an entertaining evening of basketball.

The Buddy Basketball Tournament of Champions matchup between the Bridgewater-Raritan Middle School and the Eisenhower Intermediate School was contested on Thursday, March 5.

This annual showdown was played before an enthusiastic audience at the Bridgewater-Raritan Middle School gymnasium.

The spearhead of this festive basketball game was Kristin Sarboukh, who is a Language and Learning Disabled (LLD) Teacher at Eisenhower.

She served once again as the passionate game coordinator.

Ms. Sarboukh explained the entire production, which has become a tradition in the Bridgewater-Raritan Regional School District.

“Each year, the Bridgewater Raritan Middle School and Eisenhower Intermediate School come together for their annual Basketball Buddies program!”

She continued to discuss the program.

“ Our Language and Learning Disabled (LLD) classrooms work with various peers to learn basic basketball skills as well as practice teamwork, good sportsmanship, social skills, and of course, have tons of fun! Peers are picked based on teacher recommendations and their special ability to work with others.”

The teams at Eisenhower consist of 5th and 6th Grade students from Ms. Sarboukh’s and Emily Long’s LLD classes, as well as some of their peers from various homerooms.

According to Ms. Sarboukh, this year the teams practiced after school for five weeks before competing in the tournament against the Middle School.

The Middle School teams were made up of 7th and 8th Graders from Jessica Staudt’s and Ashley Overeem’s LLD classes, plus their peers at the school.

At the end of the tournament, each student received a personalized trophy donated by Jim Gano of Crown Trophy.

“It is with the help of such great teachers, parents, and community volunteers that we are able to continue running our annual Basketball Buddies program.” Ms. Sarboukh said.

She added:

“We are so proud to have the chance to work with and coach each and every one of our students in an event that they will never forget!”
