The final product was a fantastic finale.
The Eisenhower Intermediate School Drama Club’s production of The Addams Family Musical was performed on the evenings of Wednesday, March 11, and Thursday, March 12, and during the afternoon at a school-wide assembly on Thursday, March 12.
No matter which presentation you attended in Eisenhower’s spacious gymnasium, you were treated to a spectacular show.
Eisenhower’s musical performance during those two days capped a long process that rewarded the audience.
The engineers behind this well-tuned project were the Eisenhower Drama Club’s Co-Advisors, Madison Kaminsky and Jessica Reynolds.
They recalled the launching of the musical’s team of cast and crew three months ago.
“In December, students went through an audition process to give them an idea of what auditioning for shows is like. They were asked to sing a song of their choice from a selected few, perform a short choreographed dance, and read sides that included a role they were interested in. Selected students then participated in a callback, where they were asked to read, sing, and dance again to solidify their roles,” Ms. Kaminsky and Ms. Reynolds explained.
Ms. Kaminsky and Ms. Reynolds further discussed the preparation and practice that shaped these Eisenhower students into sound actors and crew members.
“The cast began rehearsing in January, every Tuesday and Thursday. There, they learned the ins and outs of theatre from stage directions and terms, to what “tech week” is. Over the course of three months, they rehearsed, memorized, blocked, sang, danced, and everything in between,” they revealed.
Ms. Kaminsky and Ms. Reynolds shared more of what went on behind the curtain.
“In addition to our cast, we had a 12-person stage crew that worked on painting the set, creating props, organizing scene changes during performances, helping the cast with any costume changes, and anything else that goes on "behind the scenes.”
Dr. Laura Bassett, the Eisenhower Principal, applauded the effort before and during the show.
“Our students poured their hearts into their production, and the result was spectacular,” Dr. Bassett claimed. “It was wonderful to see their talent, creativity, and teamwork shine on stage. I could not be prouder of the cast, crew, and staff!
Ms. Kaminsky and Ms. Reynolds concluded their review.
“With the help of both teacher and parent volunteers, all of this hard work culminated in a spectacular performance that the students will never forget. We are so proud of the students for putting on such a stellar performance!"
