The Bridgewater-Raritan Regional School District's Festival of the Arts opened on Wednesday, March 19, when the Choral Concert was performed at Bridgewater-Raritan High School's main gym. The Orchestra Concert is set for March 26, and the Band Concert will be played on March 27.

Award-winning author and illustrator Eric Velasquez visited Van Holten School on March 10th. He discussed and demonstrated his writing and illustrating process in creating his books and how many of his stories were inspired by his culture and family experiences. He shared about Cuban music and listened to it daily in his grandmother's apartment. Mr. Velasquez played some of these songs for students during his presentation. In each of his presentations, one lucky student was selected to have a self-portrait completed by Mr. Velasquez. He used this as an opportunity to discuss his drawing and shading techniques. Our students were eager to learn about Mr. Velasquez and his books.

Mr. Sari and fourth graders put on the annual spring choral concert on March 13th. The program was titled "W. V. H. Radio Van Holten." Students sang popular songs from different decades, ranging from the 50s to the late 90s. A few songs sung included "Every Day," "Eye of the Tiger," and "Dancin' in the Street." Mr. Sari utilized everyday objects that students turned into musical instruments. Parents and family members enjoyed the special show.

Paleontologists Michael and Roberta shared their Rocks, Fossils, and Minerals presentation with our third-grade students and teachers. Students explored the timeline of the earth and saw some of the oldest rocks, fossils, and minerals ever discovered. "Mr. Nixon," a full-size Triceratops skull, was part of the presentation. In addition, third graders had the opportunity to be paleontologists as they participated in their own fossil dig. It was a great experience for our third graders!

Fourth-grade students and teachers put on the 4th annual Van Holten Thanksgiving Parade for students and staff. Fourth graders created creative floats as part of their Holiday Unit in social studies. It was just like seeing the parade in NYC!

Van Holten students attended a Veterans Day assembly on November 14th. Three local VFW Post 370 New Brunswick veterans talked to students about what it is to be a veteran, their service, and their sacrifice to keep our country free and safe. One veteran brought his service dog and shared how this special dog supports him daily. Many of our students created pictures and cards for these veterans. At the end of the presentation, Van Holten students walked over to these servicemen to "Thank" them for their service and sacrifice. Those were touching moments!

Creative and attractive---and funny--- costumes were on exhibit in full view of delightful family and friends when the Van Holten Primary School held its annual Halloween Parade on Thursday, October 31. Great job and a happy Husky Halloween!
